Spring has come around fairly early this year and that means lots
outside, there are steps you can take to help control dust, pollen
and allergies indoors. Here are a few tips to prevention tips that
can help keep your home clean and fresh through the spring
season.

Make sure that your doors and windows have been caulked or
weather-stripping has been applied to keep them airtight. You
want to make sure you keep the bad air out.

Always keep your windows closed in the Spring to prevent pollen
from blowing right in. Once it becomes too hot to deal with,
turn on your central air conditioning unit instead of opening
windows. If you cannot afford a central ac system, opt for
window units instead.

Replace the filters in your HVAC system at least once every 2-3
months and try to use filters that are specifically for allergies.

When grooming pets, make sure you brush them outside at least
every couple of days and you could also use baby wipes to
remove surface pollen from their coats before entering the home.

Keep an eye on the weather and high pollen days. Most local
news stations report daily on how healthy the air is and when it
could be dangerous. Heed the warnings and stay in as much as
possible.

If you tend to have a lot of things sitting on tables, desks and
countertops, remove the clutter to keep the dust to a minimum.

Don't line dry your clothes if you can avoid it. Buy a cheap rack
that you can place inside your home for items that need to air
dry.

Always have a mat outside of your doors so you can wipe your
feet before entering your home. You wouldn't believe the
amount of dirt and pollen is tracked all over your home by your
shoes.

When doing yard work, make sure you wear a mask. You may
think they look odd, but they are the best defense when you are
outdoors. Make sure you buy the disposable masks and throw
them in the trash before you come back inside.

If you have an air purifier in your home, make sure you use it!
HEPA air filters clean your home of pollen more than you would
expect. You can purchase smaller filters to put into rooms where
you spend the majority of your time, like the living area or
bedroom.

As you can see, these are very simple tips that you can follow to
cut down on pollen and allergies. The key to making a difference
is to be consistent with these steps.
